Leigh Dyson

Agility Instructor

A sought-after instructor who understands the challenges of the sport

Leigh started her agility journey 9 years ago with her dog Pi (home bred by her sister Sue). Her introduction to the sport was accidental as she was helping her sister with puppy classes since her sister  was not mobile enough at the time due to a car accident and needed help with her then new puppy, This helped Leigh learn the groundwork of dog agility as a complete novice, but it soon turned into an obsession. When gifted with her border collie Pi she learnt the skills, endured the many frustrations and celebrated the highest of highs that partnering with man’s best friend brings. Pi went on to become a SA agility champion in her short career of 6 years. Unfortunately a double cruciate catastrophe ended her brilliant career way too early.

At that time Leigh had a new red border collie pup, Wifi from one of the top agility dog kennels in SA. WiFi has taken her on another learning journey with many challenges and some exceptional agility moments.
“I quickly learnt that she was a very different dog to my Pi, and that her speed and athleticism was a whole new challenge”.
It is through having challenging dogs that some of the best learning happens. Leigh spent a year and half in a CPC instructor mentorship programme and is sought after by students who want a kind, sympathetic coach who has a deep understanding of the sport of agility and the training challenges one endures.

She has been coached with her dogs by some of the best instructors in SA and is a KUSA dog jumping judge.

Leigh says “I have recognized that I do have an intuitive approach to dog training. My solutions to various challenges in agility, comes from a place of learnt knowledge and intuitive instinct.
Every time I take to the agility field with my partner, I learn something new about myself, handling and my fantastic dog. I plan to make every dog I own a true champion both on the field and on my couch.”

Her passion and dedication to her dogs and students is exemplary.
